N2 - Introduction: Worldwide there are countless species of bamboo; In Peru, Brazil and Bolivia they have plantations, as it is a sustainable and economic alternative. Currently in the Peruvian Amazon, the Guadua angustifolia species is marketed, as it has ideal physical and mechanical properties in civil construction. Objective: Determine the mechanical properties of Guadua angustifolia Kunth. in the city of Tingo María, Huánuco. Materials and methods: The laboratory research used bamboo of the species Guadua angustifolia Kunth, extracted from the Farm of the Faculty of Agronomy of the National Agrarian University of the Selva (UNAS) in Peru. Obtaining sample culms was by selecting mature bushes and culms; Then they were cut and coded, obtaining eight specimens, two for each test (static bending, compression parallel to the fiber, compression perpendicular to the fiber, shear parallel to the fiber). Results: there are significant statistical differences between the three levels of the culm, with the upper level registering the highest stress (37.8 MPa); in the unit stress in proportional limit in parallel compression (ELP), there were no significant statistical differences between the lower and middle levels, but both report significant statistical differences with the upper level with a higher stress (39.4 MPa). Conclusions: Guadua angustifolia has adequate mechanical properties, and can be used in different uses; However, it is recommended to increase its rigidity and resistance for complex structures. This study serves as a primary source for the development of cultivation at an industrial level and for the preservation of the environment in the Peruvian Amazon.
