Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe how transformational leadership is implemented in Peruvian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the workers’ perspective. It is important to highlight how in Peru, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a fundamental role in the country’s economy, generating around 50% of employment, which represents 20% of the national GDP. Leadership focuses on directing people toward shared goals for the benefit of the community. The transformational leader works as a team with his followers, fostering collaboration and teamwork to overcome obstacles and achieve shared goals. Through his leadership, the transformational leader can transform the organization’s culture and identity, creating a more motivating and satisfying work environment for employees and improving overall work quality and effectiveness. A survey was applied to the personnel of different SMEs in Metropolitan Lima. The results obtained demonstrated a strong presence of the characteristics of transformational leadership in these organizations. Transformational leadership represents a valuable tool for SMEs in the current context, allowing the development of an effective organizational culture.
